Surah Kahf full with Transliteration and Translation in English
Bismillahir-Raḥmanir-Raḥim
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Alham du lillaa hil lazee anzala ‘alaa ‘abdihil kitaaba wa lam yaj’al lahoo ‘iwajaa
All praise is due to Allah, who has revealed the Book to His servant, without any flaws in it.
Qaiyimal liyunzira ba’asan shadeedam mil ladunhu wa yubashshiral mu’mineenal lazeena ya’maloonas saalihaati anna lahum ajran hasanaa
Making it completely straight, to warn the disbelievers of a severe punishment from Him, and to give good news to the believers who do good deeds, that they will receive a great reward.
Maakiseena feehi abadaa
In which they will stay forever.
Wa yunziral lazeena qaalut takhazal laahu waladaa
And to warn those who claim, "Allah has children.
Maa lahum bihee min ‘ilminw wa laa li aabaaa’ihim; kaburat kalimatan takhruju min afwaahihim; iny yaqooloona illaa kazibaa
They have no understanding of this, nor did their forefathers. What a dreadful statement they make! They say nothing but falsehoods.
Fala’allaka baakhi’un nafsaka ‘alaaa aasaarihim illam yu’minoo bihaazal hadeesi asafaa
Now, perhaps you, O Prophet, will feel so sad over their rejection that you might nearly lose your life, if they continue to disbelieve in this message.
Inaa ja’alnaa ma ‘alal ardi zeenatal lahaa linabluwahum ayyuhum ahsanu ‘amalaa
We have certainly made everything on earth an adornment for it, to test which of them performs the best deeds
And we will surely turn everything on it into barren land.
Amm hasibta anna Ashaabal Kahfi war Raqeemi kaanoo min Aayaatinaa ‘ajabaa
Izz awal fityatu ilal Kahfi faqaaloo Rabbanaaa aatinaa mil ladunka rahmatanw wa haiyi’ lanaa min amrinaa rashad aa
Remember when those young men sought refuge in the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us mercy from Yourself and guide us in the right way through our struggle.
Fada rabnaa ‘alaaa aaza nihim fil Kahfi seneena ‘adadaa
So We made them fall into a deep sleep in the cave for many years.
Summa ba’asnaahum lina’lama ayyul hizbaini ahsaa limaa labisoo amadaa
Then We awakened them so that We could see which of the two groups would be more accurate in estimating the length of their stay.
Nahnu naqussu ‘alaika naba ahum bilhaqq; innahum fityatun aamanoo bi Rabbihim wa zidnaahum hudaa
We tell you their story, O Prophet, in truth. They were young men who truly believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.
Wa rabatnaa ‘alaa quloo bihim iz qaamoo faqaaloo Rabbunaa Rabbus samaawaati wal ardi lan nad’uwa min dooniheee ilaahal laqad qulnaaa izan shatatun
And We strengthened their hearts when they stood up and declared, "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. We will never call upon any god besides Him, for that would truly be a great lie.
Haaa’ulaaa’i qawmunat takhazoo min dooniheee aalihatal law laa yaatoona ‘alaihim bisultaanim baiyin; faman azlamu mimmaniftaraa ‘alal laahi kazibaa
Then they said to each other, "Our people have taken gods besides Him. Why don't they provide clear proof of them? Who could be more wrong than those who invent lies about ALLAH?
Since you have separated yourselves from them and what they worship besides Allah, seek refuge in the cave. Your Lord will shower His mercy upon you and make your situation easier.
Wa tarash shamsa izaa tala’at tazaawaru ‘an kahfihim zaatal yameeni wa izaa gharabat taqriduhum zaatash shimaali wa hum fee fajwatim minh; zaalika min Aayaatillaah; mai yahdil laahu fahuwal muhtad, wa mai yudlil falan tajida lahoo waliyyam murshidaa
And you would have seen the sun, as it rose, shifting away from their cave to the right, and as it set, moving away to the left, while they lay in an open space inside. This is one of the signs of Allah. Whoever Allah guides is truly on the right path, but whoever He lets go astray, you will find no one to guide them.
Wa kazaalika ba’asnaahum liyatasaaa’aloo bainahum; qaala qaaa’ilum minhum kam labistum qaaloo labisnaa yawman aw ba’da yawm; qaaloo Rabbukum a’lamu bimaa labistum fab’asooo ahadakum biwariqikum haazihee ilal madeenati falyanzur ayyuhaaa azkaa ta’aaman falyaatikum birizqim minhu walyatalattaf wa laa yush’iranna bikum ahadaa
And so We awakened them so they could ask one another. One of them said, “How long have we been asleep?” Some replied, “Maybe a day or part of a day.” Others said, “Your Lord knows best how long we have stayed. So send one of you with these silver coins to the city to find the purest food and bring some back. But he must be very careful and not let anyone recognize him.
Inna hum iny yazharoo ‘alaikum yarjumookum aw yu’eedookum fee millatihim wa lan tuflihooo izan abadaa
You will never succeed because, if they learn about you, they will either force you back into their faith or stone you "to death.
Wa kazaalika a’sarnaa ‘alaihim liya’lamooo anna wa’dal laahi haqqunw wa annas Saa’ata laa raiba feehaa iz yatanaaza’oona bainahum amrahum faqaalub noo ‘alaihim bunyaanaa; Rabbuhum a’lamu bihim; qaalal lazeena ghalaboo ‘alaaa amrihim lanat takhizanna ‘alaihim masjidaa
This is how We made them known so that their people would realize that Allah’s promise of resurrection is true and that there is no doubt about the Hour. When people argued about their case after their death, some suggested, “Let’s build a structure around them. Their Lord knows best about them.” But those who had more power said, “We will surely build a place of worship over them.
Sa yaqooloona salaasatur raabi’uhum kalbuhum wa yaqooloona khamsatun saadisuhum kalbuhum rajmam bilghaib; wa yaqooloona sab’atunw wa saaminuhum kalbuhum; qur Rabbeee a’lamu bi’iddatihim maa ya’lamuhum illaa qaleel; falaa tumaari feehim illaa miraaa’an zaahiranw wa laa tastafti feehim minhum ahadaa
Some will say, “They were three, and their dog was the fourth,” while others will say, “They were five, and their dog was the sixth,” merely guessing. And others will say, “They were seven, and their dog was the eighth.” Say, O Prophet, “My Lord knows best their exact number. Only a few truly know.” So do not argue about them except with clear knowledge, and do not seek answers from those who speculate about them.
Wa laa taqoolanna lishai’in innee faa’ilun zaalika ghadaa
And never say about anything, “I will definitely do this tomorrow,
illaaa any yashaaa’al laah; wazkur Rabbaka izaa naseeta wa qul ‘asaaa any yahdiyani Rabbee li aqraba min haazaa rashadaa
Always say, “If Allah wills” when planning for the future. If you forget, then remember your Lord and say, “I trust that my Lord will guide me to what is better and more correct.
Wa labisoo fee kahfihim salaasa mi’atin sineena wazdaadoo tis’aa
They stayed in their cave for three hundred years, plus nine more.
Qulil laahu a’lamu bimaa labisoo lahoo ghaibus samaawaati wal ardi absir bihee wa asmi’; maa lahum min doonihee minw waliyyinw wa laa yushriku fee hukmihee ahadaa
Say, O Prophet, "Allah knows best how long they stayed. Only He knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth. How perfectly He hears and sees! They have no protector besides Him, and He shares His command with no one.
Watlu maaa oohiya ilaika min Kitaabi Rabbika laa mubaddila li Kalimaatihee wa lan tajida min doonihee multahadaa
Recite what has been revealed to you from the Book of your Lord. No one can change His Words, and you will find no refuge other than Him.

Be patient and stay with those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His pleasure. Do not let your eyes long for the luxuries of this worldly life. And do not follow those whose hearts We have made neglectful of Our remembrance, who only follow their desires, and whose actions lead to complete loss.
Wa qulil haqqu mir Rabbikum faman shaaa’a falyu’minw wa man shaaa’a falyakfur; innaaa a’tadnaa lizzaalimeena Naaran ahaata bihim suraadiquhaa; wa iny yastagheesoo yughaasoo bimaaa’in kalmuhli yashwil wujooh’ bi’sash-sharaab; wa saaa’at murtafaqaa
And say, O Prophet, "This is the truth from your Lord. Whoever wants to believe, let them believe, and whoever wants to disbelieve, let them disbelieve." Surely We have prepared for the wrongdoers a Fire whose walls will completely surround them. When they cry for help, they will be given water like molten metal, which will burn their faces. What a terrible drink, and what a dreadful place to rest!
Innal lazeena aamanoo wa ‘amilus saalihaati innaa laa nudee’u ajra man ahsana ‘amalaa
As for those who believe and do good deeds, We will never deny the reward of those who strive to do their best.
Ula’aa’ika lahum Jannaatu ‘Adnin tajree min tahtihimul anhaaru yuhallawna feehaa min asaawira min zahabinw wa yalbasoona siyaaban khudram min sundusinw wa istabraqim muttaki’eena feehaa ‘alal araaa’ik; ni’mas sawaab; wa hasunat murtafaqaa
They will be the ones who will have the Gardens of Eternity, with rivers flowing beneath them. There, they will be adorned with gold bracelets and wear green garments made of fine silk and rich brocade, reclining on canopied couches. What a marvelous reward! And what a wonderful place to rest!
Wadrib lahum masalar rajulaini ja’alnaa li ahadihimaa jannataini min a’naabinw wa hafafnaahumaa binakhilinw wa ja’alnaa bainahumaa zar’aa
Give them, O Prophet, the example of two men. To one of them, We gave two gardens of grapevines, surrounded by palm trees, with various crops planted in between.
Kiltal jannataini aatat ukulahaa wa lam tazlim minhu shai’anw wa fajjarnaa khi laalahumaa naharaa
Each garden produced its full yield, never falling short. And We made a river flow between them.
Wa kaana lahoo samarun faqaala lisaahibihee wa huwa yuhaawiruhoo ana aksaru minka maalanw wa a’azzu nafaraa
And he had other resources as well. So, while talking to a poor companion, he boasted, "I am wealthier than you and have more power.
Wa dakhala jannatahoo wa huwa zaalimul linafsihee qaala maaa azunnu an tabeeda haaziheee abadaa
And he entered his property, wronging himself, saying, "I don't think this will ever be destroyed.
Nor do I think the Hour will ever come. And if in fact I am returned to my Lord, I will definitely get a far better outcome than all this.
Qaala lahoo saahibuhoo wa huwa yuhaawiruhooo akafarta billazee khalaqaka min turaabin summa min nutfatin summa sawwaaka rajulaa
His believing companion replied, while talking to him, "Do you disbelieve in the One who created you from dust, then developed you from a sperm-drop, and formed you into a man?
Laakinaa Huwal laahu Rabbee wa laa ushriku bi Rabbeee ahadaa
Wa law laaa iz dakhalta jannataka qulta maa shaaa’al laahu laa quwwata illaa billaah; in tarani ana aqalla minka maalanw wa waladaa
If only you had said, upon entering your property, "This is what Allah has willed! There is no power except with Allah!" Even though you see me as inferior to you in wealth and children,
Fa’asaa Rabeee any yu’tiyani khairam min jannatika wa yursila ‘alaihaa husbaanam minas samaaa’i fatusbiha sa’eedan zalaqaa
Perhaps my Lord will grant me something better than your garden, and send a thunderbolt from the sky upon your garden, turning it into a barren waste.

Or its water may sink into the earth, and then you will never be able to find it.

And so all his produce was completely ruined, and he began to wring his hands in regret for all he had spent on it, as it had collapsed on its trellises. He cried, "Alas! I wish I had never associated anyone with my Lord in worship!

And he had no strength to help him against Allah, nor could he even help himself.

At this time, support comes only from Allah—the True Lord. He is the best in reward and the best in outcome.

And give them an example of this worldly life. It is like the plants of the earth, which grow when nourished by the rain We send down from the sky. Then they quickly turn into chaff, scattered by the wind. And Allah is fully capable of doing all things.

Wealth and children are the decorations of this worldly life, but the lasting good deeds are much better in the eyes of your Lord, both in reward and in hope.

Be aware of the Day when We will blow away the mountains, and you will see the earth completely flat. We will gather all of humanity, leaving no one behind.

They will be brought before your Lord in rows, and the disbelievers will be told, "You have truly returned to Us just as We created you the first time, even though you always claimed that We would never set a time for your return.

The record of deeds will be opened, and you will see the wrongdoers filled with fear over what is written in it. They will say, "Oh, woe to us! What kind of record is this that leaves nothing, whether small or large, unlisted?" They will find everything they did laid out before them. And your Lord will never wrong anyone.

And ˹remember˺ when We commanded the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they all prostrated, except for Iblîs, who was one of the jinn. He defied the command of his Lord. Would you then take him and his descendants as allies instead of Me, even though they are your enemies? What an evil choice for the wrongdoers to make!

I did not call them to witness the creation of the heavens and the earth, nor even their own creation, and I would never take the misguiders as helpers.
Wa Yawma yaqoolu naadoo shurakaaa’i yal lazeena za’amtum fada’awhum falam yastajeeboo lahum wa ja’alnaa bainahum maw biqaa
And beware of the Day when He will say, "Call upon those you claimed were My associate-gods." They will call them, but they will receive no response. And We will make them all share in the same doom.
Wa ra al mujrimoonan Naara fazannooo annahum muwaaqi’oohaa wa lam yajidoo ‘anhaa masrifaa
The wicked will see the Fire and realize that they are destined to fall into it, and they will find no way to escape from it.
Wa laqad sarrafnaa fee haazal quraani linnaasi min kulli masal; wa kaanal insaanu aksara shai’in jadalaa
We have certainly presented in this Quran every kind of lesson for people, yet mankind is the most argumentative of all creatures.
Wa maa mana’an naasa any yu’minooo iz jaaa’ahumul hudaa wa yastaghfiroo Rabbahum illaaa an taatiyahum sunnatul awwaleena aw yaatiyahumul ‘azaabu qubulaa
And nothing prevents people from believing when guidance comes to them and from seeking their Lord’s forgiveness except ˹their demand˺ to meet the same fate of earlier deniers or that the torment would confront them face to face.
Wa maa nursilul mursaleena illaa mubashshireena wa munzireen; wa yujaadilul lazeena kafaroo bilbaatili liyudhidoo bihil haqqa wattakhazooo Aayaatee wa maaa unziroo huzuwaa
We do not send the messengers except as bearers of good news and warners. But the disbelievers argue with falsehood, seeking to invalidate the truth, and make a mockery of My signs and warnings.

And who does more wrong than those who, when reminded of their Lord’s revelations, turn away from them and forget what their own hands have done? We have certainly placed veils over their hearts, leaving them unable to understand this Qur’an, and deafness in their ears. And if you ˹O Prophet˺ call them to ˹true˺ guidance, they will never be ˹rightly˺ guided.

Your Lord is the All-Forgiving, Full of Mercy. If He were to seize them ˹immediately˺ for what they commit, He would certainly have hastened their punishment. But they have an appointed time, from which they will find no refuge.
Wa tilkal quraaa ahlak nahum lammaa zalamoo wa ja’alnaa limahlikihim maw’idaa
Those are the societies We destroyed when they persisted in wrong, and We had set a time for their destruction.

And remember when Moses said to his young assistant, “I will never give up until I reach the junction of the two seas, even if I travel for ages.
Falammaa balaghaa majma’a bainihimaa nasiyaa hootahumaa fattakhaza sabeelahoo fil bahri sarabaa
But when they finally reached the point where the seas met, they forgot their salted fish, and it made its way into the sea, slipping away wondrously.
Falammaa jaawazaa qaala lifataahu aatinaa ghadaaa’anaa laqad laqeena min safarinaa haazaa nasabaa
He replied, “Did you see when we sought shelter at the rock? I forgot the fish, and none but Satan made me forget to mention it. It took its way into the sea in a marvelous manner!”

And how can you have patience with things that are outside of your "area of expertise"?

They continued on their way until they reached a town and asked the people for food, but the locals refused to help them. There, they saw a wall about to collapse, and the man repaired it. Moses objected, "You could have asked for payment for fixing it."

Innaa makkannaa lahoo fil ardi wa aatainaahu min kulli shai’in sababaa
Surely, We gave him power in the land and provided him with the means to accomplish everything he needed.
Fa atba’a sababaa
So he followed a path on his journey.
Hata aa izaa balagha maghribash shamsi wajadahaaa taghrubu fee ‘aynin hami’a tinw wa wajada ‘indahaa qawmaa; qulnaa yaa Zal Qarnaini immaaa an tu’az ziba wa immaaa an tattakhiza feehim husnaa
He continued traveling until he reached the place where the sun seemed to set in a spring of dark, murky water. There, he found some people. We said, "O Dhul-Qarnain! You may either punish them or treat them with kindness."
Qaala amma man zalama fasawfa nu’azzibuhoo summa yuraddu ilaa Rabbihee fa yu ‘azzibuhoo azaaban nukraa
He replied, "Whoever does wrong will be punished by us, and then they will be returned to their Lord, who will give them a severe punishment."
Wa ammaa man aamana wa ‘amila saalihan falahoo jazaaa’anil husnaa wa sanaqoolu lahoo min amrinaa yusraa
"As for those who believe and do good deeds, they will receive the best reward, and we will give them easy tasks to do."
Sum ma atba’a saba baa
Then he continued on a different path.
Hattaaa izaa balagha matli’ash shamsi wajdahaa tatlu’u alaa qawmil lam naj’al lahum min doonihaa sitraa
He traveled until he reached the place where the sun rises. There, he found people for whom We had not provided any shelter from the sun.
Kazaalika wa qad ahatnaa bimaa ladaihi khubraa
That was the case. And indeed, We had complete knowledge of him.
Summa atba’a sababa’a
Then he traveled on a third path.
Hatta’aa izaa balagha bainas saddaini wajada min doonihim’aa qawmal laa yakaa doona yafqahoona qawlaa
He traveled until he reached a pass between two mountains. There, he found a people who could barely understand his language.
Qaaloo yaa Zal qarnaini inna Ya’jooja wa Ma’jooja mufsidoona fil ardi fahal naj’alu laka kharjan ‘alaaa an taj’ala bainanaa wa bainahum saddaa
They begged, "O Dhul-Qarnain! Surely, Gog and Magog are causing corruption in the land. Should we offer you tribute if you build a wall to protect us from them?"
Qaala maa makkannee feehi Rabbee khairun fa-a’eenoonee biquwwatin aj’al bainakum wa bainahum radmaa
He replied, "What my Lord has given me is much better. But if you help me with resources, I will build a barrier between you and them."
Aatoonee zubaral hadeed, hattaaa izaa saawaa bainas sadafaini qaalan fukhoo hattaaa izaa ja’alahoo naaran qaala aatooneee ufrigh ‘alaihi qitraa
"Bring me blocks of iron!" he commanded. Once he had filled the gap between the two mountains, he ordered, "Blow!" When the iron became red hot, he said, "Now bring me molten copper to pour over it."
Famas taa’ooo any yazharoohu wa mastataa’oo lahoo naqbaa
As a result, the enemies were unable to climb over it or tunnel through it.
Qaala haaza rahmatun mir Rabbee fa izaa jaaa’a wa’du Rabbee ja’alahoo dakkaaa’a; wa kana wa’du Rabbee haqq’aa
He said, "This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord is fulfilled, He will make it level with the ground. And my Lord's promise is always true."
Wa taraknaa ba’dahum Yawma’iziny yamooju fee ba’dinw wa nufikha fis Soori fajama’naahum jam’aa
We'll let them to surge over each other "like waves" on that day. The Trumpet will be blown later, and we shall bring everyone together.
Wa ‘aradnaa jahannama Yawma’izil lilkaafireena ‘ardaa
We will make Hell visible to the unbelievers on that day.

Afahasibal lazeena kafarooo any yattakhizoo ‘ibaadee min dooneee awliyaaa’; innaaa a’tadnaa jahannama lil kaafireena nuzula’a
Do the disbelievers think they can take My servants as lords instead of Me? Surely, We have prepared Hell as a place for them to stay.

Allazeena dalla sa’yuhum fil hayaatid dunyaa wa hum yahsaboona annahum yuhsinoona sun’aa
They are the ones whose efforts are wasted in this worldly life, yet they believe they are doing good!

Ula’aa’ikal lazeena kafaroo bi aayaati Rabbihim wa liqaaa’ihee fahabitat a’maaluhum falaa nuqeemu lahum Yawmal Qiyaamati waznaa
They are the ones who deny the signs of their Lord and the meeting with Him, making their deeds worthless. So, on Judgment Day, We will give their deeds no weight.

Their reward is Hell, because they denied the truth and mocked My signs and messengers.

Surely, those who believe and do good deeds will have the Gardens of Paradise as their home.
